Cultural Association

The purpose of the “Turututela” is the research, study, revaluation and popularization of the musical, theatrical and traditional Lombard artistic heritage.

The association recovers the “Turututela” Lombard’s tradition (in the last century they were called the story-tellers) of popular stories and musical structures and lines often distorted by dancing orchestras or by musical cabaret bands which, especially after the second post-war period, detailed in these songs the ludicrous and grotesque instead of the historical and narrative peculiarities, changing completely their meaning.

The objective of the association is to press the new generation to recover their cultural and civic identity, becoming in this way careful connoisseurs of the historical and popular traditions of their region, province or town, and to inspire future people to be conscious and appreciative of their popular, musical and historical theatrical traditions.

Thanks to the precision of the information, accompanied by very simple, light and metaphorical explanations, the association seeks to embrace a larger audience, not only the young people but also those older ones who have lived these historical – popular traditions.

To realize its purposes and objectives, the association uses sounds (CD’S) and literary ways, stages, shows, musical, theatrical and popular culture representations specific to the popular tradition of the previous area.

Fabrizio Poggi, singer-songwriter, harmonicist, accordionist, guitarist and mandolinist, leader of the band Chicken Mambo and front man extraordinaire, is greatly appreciated in the country-folk European and American musical scenes. He has recorded 5 CDs, (one recorded in USA), and has given shows all over the world and in particular North America. He has played with very famous artists from the American country-folk scene, gaining wonderful reviews by national and international musical magazines. In 1999, after a period of sickness since overcome, in a very hard time of his life, family, friends and the places where he lived and where he lives now became very precious to him. He decided to make a record in homage to the lullabies that his mother and his grandmother used to sing to him when he was a little child.

As he did for the American music, he started the meticulous and passionate research of words of songs, lyrics, old books and records almost lost and forgotten. Fabrizio Poggi discovered the magical world of the Lombard folklore, and then decided to enlarge his horizons in a cultural way, founding, together with those of a similar love, the cultural association “Turututela”, confirming another time the motto (by Voghera’s artist Alessandro Maragliano) that says “to love our land, far more than only atavistic pleasure, fires our lives and above all is a moral must”.
